We've rolled out Real-Time Search (RTS) — a new, more reliable way to power Live Search for Slack. RTS is now the recommended setup for Slack Live Search and we'd encourage teams to move their current Slack Live Search setups over to it.
🚫 Not available for Gov Cloud customers. RTS is not supported by Slack in Gov Cloud environments. Gov Cloud customers will continue to use the existing (legacy) Slack search and do not need to take any action.
What's better with RTS
- More reliable at scale — RTS significantly reduces the rate-limiting seen with the legacy search, so Slack search holds up much better under heavy use.
- Smarter, semantic results — results are matched on meaning, not just keywords, improving the quality and relevance of what users get back.
Action needed: set up the new Slack app
RTS runs on a new custom Slack app with updated (RTS-scoped) permissions. To switch to RTS, you'll need to:
- Create the new custom Slack app in your Slack workspace.
- Install the app in your workspace.
- Your end users then re-authenticate — after which Slack search will work via RTS.
